The Only Thing of Value

"The only thing of value you have to share with anyone else is what I have done for you."

Take care of others, and I will take care of you. God

Bob Eph 4:30 - Be kind and compassionate to one another . . .

(Oct 08) Compassion is God's agape love in action. It takes time, as in phone calls and visits. It takes emotional energy, as in sharing people's disappointment, confusion, or grief. And sometimes it takes cash, as in gas money or groceries.

You must set your own needs aside so you can serve others.

"I'm doing what you asked, Lord. But there are far too many burdens for me to handle. And only You can fix their problems. How can I help others without having their burdens drag me down?"

You have learned to place your own affairs in My hands. Why can't you do the same for others?

How can we be content to help others from a distance when Jesus calls us to become personally involved? How can we disapprove of the Levite who passed by the man laying beaten and unconscious on the side of the road, and yet fail to see that we are that Levite? Jesus tells us

Matt 10:8 NIV - Freely you have received, freely give.

Contrary to popular opinion, the primary reason that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah was not sexual perversion. According to God's Word:

Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy." (Ez 16:49, also see Matt 25)

God insists that we help the poor and needy. Without someone willing to drive the church van, the youth will fall prey to bad company. Without someone willing to put aside their busyness and listen, that precious moment of ministry will never occur. Without someone to bring a warm meal or visit for a while, people may lose all hope. Without someone willing to set up the pro-life booth at the fair, the babies will die. Without someone willing to pray, the spiritual strongholds will never come down. Without someone to visit families in their homes, they may remain unchurched. Without someone willing to do Awana and Sunday School and youth retreat, the children may never take hold of Jesus. Finally, there is one more good reason why I should have compassion upon others:

Because you have had compassion on others, God will have compassion upon you.
