The Only Thing of Value

"The only thing of value you have to share with anyone else is what I have done for you."

Idolatry leads to captivity. God

Bob Lev 26:13 - I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt, so you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.

(2007) A friend told me that he felt trapped in the system of this world, at the mercy of forces and circumstances beyond his control. When I prayed to know how to help him, this is what the Lord spoke to my spirit

As long as you desire the things of this world, you will be trapped in the system of this world.

Do you know that the system of this world is under the control of the devil? The Bible says,

1 John 5:19 - We know that . . . the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

The Bible repeatedly warns that idolatry leads to captivity. Your desire for the things of this world is the "bait" that Satan uses to keep you trapped in the system of this world . . . his system. If you want to get free, you must get serious about naming and dealing with your idols.

Ex 20:2-3 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.

Idolatry is just as prevalent now as it was during Biblical times. An idol isn't necessarily something bad. More often than not, an idol begins as something good. But a good thing out of place is a bad thing. Any good thing becomes an idol if we allow it to occupy a bigger part of our life than God. When I was younger, I made an idol of my spouse. It turned out badly for both of us. There are mothers who make idols of their children. That turns out badly too. Whenever we place the created thing ahead of the Creator, we are guilty of idolatry. Who or what is your idol? Spouse, children, friends, household, career, cyberspace, reputation, money, happiness, comfort, ministry, religion? Whatever it is, Satan will use your idol to lead you into captivity.

If this day you are returning to the Lord with all your hearts, then rid yourself of the foreign gods and Ashtoreth idols and commit yourselves to the Lord and serve Him only. (1 Sam 7:3)
