The Only Thing of Value

"The only thing of value you have to share with anyone else is what I have done for you."

Will there be people in Heaven because of you? God

Bob Lk 16:15 (NIV)- Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation.

Story of the Rock - Once upon a time a huge flood covered the whole Earth. Even the highest mountains were covered with water. People tried desperately to stay afloat by grasping pieces of floating debris. But every so often men, women, and even children silently slipped beneath the cold dark water, too exhausted to struggle any longer. There was no hope. But suddenly in the east a huge Rock rose up out of the water. Some saw it, swam to it, and found safety from the flood. Those who were saved thanked the Rock. They gathered every week to sing songs about the Rock. They told each other how wonderful the Rock was. They even built Rock gardens. But they never went back into the water to save those who were drowning. What then will the Rock say to these people on the Day when the flood waters recede?

No More Excuses - Like most Christians, I stayed on the comfortable Rock and never went back into the water to save those who were drowning. But one day I stopped making excuses for myself and started asking God to change my heart.

"Those kids from low-income housing are ill-behaved . . . icky and dirty!"

You're icky and dirty too! It's just a matter of degree!

For two years I asked God for the desire and the boldness to tell others about Jesus. Most of all, I asked Him for a genuine love for others, because that's the only way it can work. He gave me what I asked for, and since then I have put it to use. How about you? When you finally stand before God, are you going to offer Him a bunch of excuses? Or will there be people in Heaven because of you?

A Joy that Others Cannot Know - I have been to places where the presence of the Lord is so strong that people fall to the ground! It is so good that nobody wants to leave. These experiences seem like the high points of my life. But the Holy Spirit said

Those aren't the high points of your life. . . . The high points of your life are the people you help lead to Him.

Heaven will be full of joy, but the Lord tells me

Those who work the Harvest will have a joy that others cannot know.

The Desire and Ability Come from God - Churches routinely offer training programs to teach social skills and conversational techniques to tell others about Jesus. They didn't work for me. They probably didn't work for you either. But Acts 1:8 DID work for me. This verse tells us that the desire and ability to tell others about Jesus comes directly from the Holy Spirit. So I took God at His Word and asked Him. And I received. If you would rather pass by on the other side of the road and ignore those who are unsaved, please try reading Luke 10:25-37 (the parable of the Good Samaritan).

John 4:35 I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields. They are ripe for harvest!

Ps 24:11 (NIV) Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not He who weighs the heart perceive it?

Pr 10:5b (NIV) He who sleeps during the harvest is a disgraceful son.
