Released into His care

Luanna's life began to unravel when she was a senior in college, but no one understood why. She withdrew from graduate school in the fall of 2008 and moved back home.

My journal for 22 Dec 2008 states, “Today Luanna tried to leave us.” Luanna was excited because her future husband Drew, stationed in South Korea, was visiting for Christmas. But at the same time she was pressured by a creditor. Something within her snapped. Luanna was treated for an overdose of Tylenol, placed on suicide watch overnight, received brief counseling, and was discharged from the hospital the next day. I stayed by her side the whole time.

On Dec 24 she asked if she could pick Drew up at the Atlanta airport and spend Christmas at his parents’ house. Her heart was set on going. But it was only two days after a suicide attempt. I did not want to let her out of my sight. I asked the Lord, “What should I do?”

Your love for Luanna is nothing compared to the love I have for her.

This was His way of asking me to release her into His care.
       So I closed my eyes,
           Took a deep breath,
And gave Luanna to Him . . .
Not only for this day, but forever.
